Working Memory is essentially our brain's ability to stay "mentally online", or to focus. In people who struggle with attention or focus, improving Working Memory can help with allowing you to hold one idea or problem in your head, while also working to solve another aspect of that problem. Working Memory is closely related to Attention. Research has found CogMed to improve Working Memory in both children and adults with inattention problems, such as in ADHD.
CogMed can be used with children ages 4 and up. It has shown to be helpful in improving attention, as well as Working Memory for children who have ADHD and/or learning disabilities or other academic challenges. Many children report an improved ability to pay attention in math following completion of the program.
A special "Create" mode is useful in building in a reward system for progress in the program. Children (or adults) can use virtual tokens to build their own online city.
The program is completed at home on a computer or tablet, with weekly Coaching Calls with a CogMed coach.
CogMed can also be used by adults of any age. Adults can choose between the "Create" mode or the "Focus" mode, which just includes the training exercises without other distractions.
The program is appropriate for any adult wanting to improve or challenge their cognitive abilities, especially those with Working Memory or attention issues. It has also been used with adults recovering from an acquired brain injury or stroke.
Weekly Coaching Calls are personalized to help you meet your goals.
