Payton Dorothy Prather, LPCC, enjoys working with clients of all backgrounds and is dedicated to being an advocate for marginalized communities and spreading awareness on the current issues in the mental health field. She enjoys working with adolescents ages 13 and up, adults, and couples. Payton’s professional interests include working with people who live with anxiety, depression, trauma, mood and personality disorders, and conduct disorders. In addition, Payton works with people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC and concerns with navigating life due to daily stressors.
In her work with couples, she utilizes a Gottman approach in helping partners enhance their communication and strengthen their relationship. |
Payton obtained her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and Health Promotions from University of Kentucky in 2017, and her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2020. Payton uses evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy, is trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI), and frequently utilizes these interventions in therapy sessions.
