Mary Schneider, LPAT, offers art therapy and other expressive and experiential approaches to encourage wellness in clients of all ages. Expressive therapy can be useful for a variety of issues, and is another treatment option for those who may be resistant to traditional talk therapy approaches, or it can be used in combination with traditional therapy as well. Mary focuses on working with younger children, adolescents, and adults, to help them with emotional and behavioral issues including trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, chronic illness, dependency and co-occurring issues, as well as self-harming behaviors.
While Mary is skilled in the use of art therapy approaches, she also offers several more traditional therapeutic strategies and adapts her therapy to best fit each individual client’s needs. In her treatment approach, Mary utilizes multiple strength and evidence-based modalities including Positive Psychology, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Informed Treatment, Mindfulness & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Mary has over 25 years of experience providing individual, group, and family therapy in a variety of settings, and enjoys facilitating change and promoting healing in her clients. She earned her undergraduate degree from Northern Kentucky University in 1991, and her Master’s Degree from the University of Louisville in 1993. She has experience in establishing many expressive therapy programs for children, adolescents, adults and families. Her work has gone as far as the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital Bereavement Center in the United Kingdom, and as close as developing program for complex co-occurring disorders at Lindner Center of Hope in Cincinnati, Ohio. She has provided treatment in hospitals, outpatient centers, community mental health, school systems, and bereavement centers, as well as residential treatment centers and private practice. Most recently, Mary has brought her expressive and group therapy skills to Viewpoint Psychological Services, where she has developed many unique and innovative group formats to help people cope with a variety of issues and life circumstances, and to offer supportive and engaging art and expressive therapy options.
She is Board Certified Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC) with the American Art Therapy Credentials Board, a Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) within the State of Kentucky, AATA, and a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in Ohio.
