Laura Hensley, LPCC-S, enjoys working with adults and adolescents who are ready to make changes in their lives. She is an EMDR clinician specializing in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and other trauma related issues. Laura also has expertise in the treatment of anxiety, self-harming behaviors, grief, depression, borderline personality disorder, as well as concerns related to substance abuse and dependence.
Laura utilizes several approaches in treatment, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients achieve their goals. Laura provides both weekly sessions and EMDR Intensive Treatment Programs. The EMDR Intensive Treatment Program is ideal for those who want to make a significant amount of progress in working through their trauma in a much shorter time, while weekly EMDR sessions require a more steady, gradual approach over course of weeks and sometimes months. Laura will work with you to determine the best course of treatment for you.
As the wife of a Master Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, Laura is familiar with both the pride and hardships that are unique to being a military family, and has a passion for working with military members and their families.
To ensure affordable access to treatment to as many people as possible, Laura is an in-network provider with Aetna, Humana, United (UHC, UBH, UMR), Medical Mutual and Tricare (however, since plans vary, you should contact your insurance to verify that Laura is covered by your specific plan). If your insurance provider is not on this list, we will gladly provide you a superbill to submit to your insurance company in an attempt to get out of network reimbursement.
Laura is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Kentucky and is a board approved clinical supervisor for counseling associates. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Hawaii Pacific University in 2003, and her Master's degree in Counseling from the University of Cincinnati in 2007. Prior to joining Viewpoint in 2012, Laura devoted six years to providing therapy and parent coaching to foster youth and families. Additionally, she has worked in an outpatient substance abuse treatment center for adults, and a residential treatment facility for adolescent females. Laura has extensive experience with both adults and adolescents, which has helped shape and develop her expertise in treatment throughout the life span.
